Advantages of BS EN straight through manual lined flange diaphragm valve

A manually operated, rubber-lined diaphragm valve is selected for its wetted materials, flow path and shutoff duty. The handwheel moves the diaphragm through the stem and compressor; flange connections provide the piping interface.

The body lining separates the process fluid from the metal body. The diaphragm flexes during operation and seals against the corresponding body geometry. Its material and mechanical duty must therefore be considered separately from the body lining.

A manual valve does not acquire spring-return or power-failure closure simply because it is a diaphragm valve. Composite diaphragms are specific constructions, not a feature of every rubber-lined valve. Remote operation and fail action require a suitable actuator and complete control arrangement.

Operating effort depends on size, pressure differential, diaphragm and mechanism. Low handwheel effort on an unloaded valve does not establish its closing capability at the required differential pressure. Stop and investigate abnormal resistance rather than extending the handwheel lever.

Provide the process fluid and concentration, cleaning fluids, temperatures, pressure differential and operating frequency. Compare the complete body-lining and diaphragm combination; a material suitable for one fluid is not a universal corrosion or high-temperature rating.

For replacement, compare flange standard, drilling, face-to-face dimensions and service access. Use the valve-specific diaphragm and assembly instructions, and verify operation and the agreed leakage performance after maintenance.
