Lined Valves: customer selection questions

Should I specify PFA, FEP or PTFE for my acid service?

Provide the full chemical mixture and concentration, impurities, normal and maximum temperatures, pressure and cleaning conditions. PFA, FEP and PTFE are different fluoropolymers, not interchangeable names for one lining. Check chemical compatibility and the complete valve's pressure-temperature limits for the specified construction; a resin property alone does not establish the valve rating.

Can I use a lined valve on a suction line or under vacuum?

Only after checking the vacuum capability of the exact lining and valve construction at the operating temperature. Provide the minimum absolute pressure, duration, temperature and any evacuation or thermal cycling. Positive-pressure suitability does not prove vacuum suitability, and lining support and permeation can matter. Do not assume that every fluoropolymer-lined valve is full-vacuum rated.

Will a lined valve solve the corrosion problem affecting my stainless steel valve?

It may be an option, but first identify the fluid, concentration, temperature and the location and mechanism of the damage. Review every wetted component, including the lining, closure member, seats and stem sealing, along with permeation and any abrasive particles. A corrosion-resistant lining does not automatically solve erosion, mechanical damage or every chemical exposure.

Can a lined valve directly replace my existing flanged valve?

Check the flange standard, facing, face-to-face length, bore and installation clearances against the selected drawing. Confirm the gasket arrangement and bolting requirements for the lined sealing faces; do not assume that the old metallic-valve gasket or bolt load is suitable. State the existing pipe material and lining so that both mating interfaces can be checked before ordering.
