Product Introduction

The 904L high molybdenum chloride resistant stainless steel flange globe valve adopts 904L super austenitic stainless steel as the main corrosion-resistant material scheme, and achieves pipeline opening and closing by moving the valve disc along the valve stem direction. The common material identification of 904L includes UNS, N08904, EN, and 1.4539. Its high nickel, high chromium alloy system containing molybdenum and copper gives it better corrosion resistance potential than conventional austenitic stainless steel in some chloride ion and acidic medium environments.

The actual corrosion resistance is not determined solely by the name "904L", but is also affected by the type, concentration, temperature, pressure, flow rate, impurities, and welding and manufacturing status of the medium. Therefore, the specific scope of application needs to be confirmed in conjunction with the working conditions.

Why is 904L material used for corrosion-resistant valves?

904L belongs to high alloy austenitic stainless steel and is often used in equipment with high material requirements for pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, or certain acidic environments. For chloride containing ion media, it can be used as one of the material selection options, but it cannot be guaranteed to withstand all concentrations, temperatures, or corrosive media.

Structural characteristics of globe valve

The shut-off valve is cut off by the cooperation of the valve disc and valve seat. Compared with structures such as full bore ball valves, their flow channels usually have directional changes and corresponding pressure losses, so they are mainly used in industrial pipelines that require reliable opening and closing and allow for certain flow resistance.

The specific structure of the valve disc, valve seat, valve cover, packing, and sealing surface should be based on the actual product design and should not be specified uniformly without product drawings and data sheets.

How to confirm the flange and flow direction?

The flange standard, nominal pressure, structural length, and medium flow direction should be confirmed based on specific product drawings, valve body identification, and project specifications. Different designs of globe valves may have different requirements for flow direction, and it is not advisable to use a unified "low in, high out" or "high in, low out" rule as a substitute for product information.

Applicable working conditions

904L globe valve can be used as a candidate solution for chemical, seawater or chlorine containing environments, acidic media, and other corrosive industrial pipelines. For environments with high temperature, high pressure, strong oxidizing media, mixed acids, or special chlorides, a special evaluation should be conducted based on corrosion data and actual material conditions.

What parameters are required for selection?

Suggest providing the name and concentration of the medium, chloride ions or other key components, working temperature, working pressure, nominal diameter, flange standard, valve body and internal material, sealing requirements, driving method, and project applicable standards. The final allowable pressure, temperature, and material combination shall be based on the product data sheet and technical agreement.

904L flange globe valve common problems

Can 904L globe valve withstand all chlorides and acidic media?

No. 904L has good corrosion resistance, but its specific applicability depends on the composition, concentration, temperature, pressure, flow rate, and manufacturing status of the medium, and should be confirmed according to the actual corrosion conditions.

What is the pressure and temperature range of 904L flange globe valve?

It cannot be determined solely based on the material name 904L. The pressure and temperature ratings also depend on the valve body design, pressure rating, flange standards, sealing materials, and product specifications, and should be based on specific product data sheets.

What else should be confirmed besides the material when selecting the 904L globe valve?

It is also necessary to confirm the medium, concentration, temperature, pressure, diameter, flange standards, valve internals and sealing materials, flow requirements, driving method, and project standards.
